Abbey Wand Shoot – Sunday 11th November

Peter Durtnall, Dave Malson and Alan Biles flew the flag for SWAC at the Abbey Bowmen Wand shoot in St.Albans today. The weather was fantastic, tea and coffee plentiful (once the urn got up to speed) and there was more cake available than you could shake a large stick at.

Dave Malson claimed Barebow honours with an amazing 58 points (more than the winning recurve archer) and Alan Biles managed bronze with a credible 20 with three wands in one end (although that was the high point of his day). Peter came in with 18 but failed to make the podium.

SWAC Autumn Open Shoot – 2nd September

Despite the good forecast, 106 archers set out in the rain (which had conveniently just started!) on our 40 target mixed game course (mostly 3Ds). Fortunately the rain didn’t last too long and we only had a few short showers during the rest of the day.

Thank you all for your kind comments about the course, we are pleased you found it challenging. Even though we had not made any major changes to the course layout, Pete & Al worked their magic again. Thank you also to all our other workers, especially Ali’s catering crew who kept you fed and watered all day.

We hope to see you at our Not The Boxing Day Shoot on Saturday 29 December.

Principles of Bow Tuning Session – 26th August

Principles of Bow Tuning at Trafalgar School

I will be running a session on Principles of Bow Tuning on Sunday morning 26/8/12 from 10.30 am at Trafalgar School. The purpose is to show how to tune your bow. You will need your bow kit with a pressure button plus 1 of your arrows fletched and 1 unfletched.

I have delayed this announcement until today as I have been waiting for the 5 day weather forecast for Sunday. The Met Office is currently showing sunshine and showers with a gusting cross wind at times. This is not ideal for accurate bow tuning but you can still learn how to do it. You will then be able to set up a target and do your own bow tuning when the weather is better. I will be running further sessions over the next few months.

I would like an idea of numbers so if you want to join in please email me at peterdurtnall@btinternet.com
