165 archers shot our 40 x 3D course in fairly warm and sunny conditions. The alligator caught out many archers, so a lot of 2nd & 3rd arrows! The novel Target 21 needed some guidance from Marshalls. Shooting from a platform across a deep gully, each peg was allocated to one of 4 targets, but with normal scoring for each peg. We received good feedback on the course, Thank you.
Congratulations to Ben Knight on winning the John Lincoln Longbow Trophy and thanks to Martin Young for presenting the trophy.
Many thanks to David & the Field Team, Frank & Jill & the Catering Team and to Sue & Jo for helping me with Admin.

17th February – SWAC vs SUAC Friendly Shoot

Southampton University Archers joined us once more for our annual friendly Portsmouth shoot, all be it slightly delayed as our hall was being renovated at the end of last year.

Extremely strong shooting from Southampton Uni with a high score of 555 from Justina, and this year the combined team trophy went to Southampton with a score of 3,169 to 2915.

A great evening again guys, thanks for coming! See you again in November 🙂

27th December – Christmas ‘Not the Boxing Day’ NFAS Field Shoot

108 archers shot our 30 Target mixed 3D, Hessians & Faces Fun Shoot in mild, overcast weather. We were lucky it didn’t rain during the shoot but conditions were very muddy due to a lot of rain right up to early morning.

You all seemed to enjoy the course judging by the feedback we received. So thank you for your company and we hope to see you at the Bluebell Shoot on 1 May.

Thank you to the SWAC members who helped before & on the day – the Field Team, Catering & Admin.

Shooting at Bushy over Xmas.

The full 40 target course will be open. Not the Boxing Day Shoot (NTBS) signs will be up directing competitors to the route for the 30 target course applicable to that shoot. So if you wish to shoot the normal course just follow the normal route. Any questions to the Field Officer.

25th October – Agincourt 600 Field Shoot

IMG_0677138 archers sallied forth to shoot our 36 target, themed, timeline course, picking up the story where we left off on the 100 Years War Shoot and taking us from Harfleur through the Agincourt campaign to the later stages of the 100 Years War. I apologised for the weather not being ‘Agincourt like’ but no one seemed to object to the dry, sunny, warm, windless day. So much for historical accuracy!

The large majority of targets were Paul Summerfield’s wonderful medieval targets painted on hessian, with a couple also by Mike Pruitt. There were also a good number of 3Ds. Story boards at the target number (except for 3Ds) gave brief details of the Date & Battle each target IMG_0699represented and in some cases the character on the target included the coat of arms of a particular knight who had been killed or captured in that Battle. A picture of the target showing the kill was included under the story board.

The costumes that many wore all added to the flavour of the occasion. Our thanks to the venerable Vincent for presenting the medals. We were very grateful for all the positive feed back. Thank you all for coming to share the day with us. Yet again the whole SWAC Team did a great job, so many thanks to for all your hard work.

6th September – NFAS Autumn Open Shoot

Weren’t we lucky with the weather! I said that in the Bluebell Shoot report and it was true again today – Clear sky and sun all day.

147 archers set off to shoot the 40 target course of mostly 3Ds. One or two caught a lot of people out, notably the new big bear. Thank you for your comments, it makes all the hard work worthwhile. So thank you to all of our team for all your hard work. Thanks also to President Trish for presenting the Medals.

We would also like to thank Carol & Micky Pearce and Longbow Heritage for supporting us for a few years now by running a Saturday Shoot and providing camping, thus providing you guys with a full weekend of Field Archery.
